Why Blaze Orange

The colour that stands out anywhere.

The one colour that isn't already out there.

Nothing on a Canadian trail is blaze orange: not dead grass, not dry leaves, not slush, not snow. A dog in it stands out at dawn, at dusk and on every grey day in between, twenty metres ahead on the path or off-leash across the field.

Reflective when the light runs out.

The Great White North, Alpine Blazer and Harbour Slicker carry 3M Scotchlite™ reflective piping, the Head Muff and vest have reflective trim, and the collars and leashes come in reflective versions. Headlights and flashlights bounce straight back, so drivers can see you and your dog.

A different reason every month.

December means the 5 p.m. walk is a night walk. March means grey slush and rain on every windshield. Summer means long grass and off-leash trails. Whatever the month, there's a reason your dog is hard to see, and Blaze Orange fixes all of them.

The Blaze Orange line-up

Which high-visibility dog coat is right for your dog?

Every Chilly Dogs® coat comes in Blaze Orange, the colour you can see from across the field. Same Canadian-made coats our customers have trusted since 1999. Pick by the weather your dog actually walks in.

Great White North Winter Dog Coat in Blaze Orange Deep cold

Great White North™

from$99.95 CAD

Our warmest coat. Waterproof nylon shell, Canadian polar fleece, ample chest and rump coverage. For short-haired dogs, small breeds, seniors and anyone who walks through real Canadian winter. Not for rain: the fleece neck isn't waterproof.

Alpine Blazer 3-Season Dog Coat in Blaze Orange Fall · Spring · Mild winter

Alpine Blazer

from$94.95 CAD

The sporty three-season coat. Waterproof, windproof shell, light microfleece lining and a high-coverage belly panel for mud and slush. The fleece panel at the front of chest allows for stretch at the shoulder. Provides full-winter warmth for thick-coated breeds.

Harbour Slicker Dog Rain Coat in Blaze Orange Rain · Mud · Slush

Harbour Slicker

from$94.95 CAD

Waterproof, windproof shell with no insulation, so thick-coated dogs stay dry without overheating. The adjustable Y-shaped chest panel keeps slush off the belly and wet-dog smell out of the car while the fleece panel at the front of chest allows for stretch at the shoulder.

Chilly Dogs Fleece Sweater in Blaze Orange Cool days · Layering

Chilly Sweater

from$54.95 CAD

A thick layer of the same Canadian polar fleece we line the Great White North with. Wear it on its own for leashed walks on cool days, or under a Harbour Slicker when it turns wet.

Head Muff Dog Ear Warmer in Blaze Orange Ears · Neck

Head Muff

from$23.95 CAD

Polar fleece ear and neck warmer with a 3M reflective strip and adjustable cord locks. For cropped, thin or frostbite-prone ears. Wear it alone or with any coat on the bitter days.

Chilly Dogs High-Visibility Vest in Off-leash · All year

Match the leash and collar

Bright at both ends of the leash.

Reflective dog collars, leashes and a hi-vis harness in orange, yellow or hot pink, so the whole walk is visible, not just the coat. Tap a colour to shop it.

Fit first

Bright only helps if it stays on the dog.

34 sizes, 3 body shapes

Standard, Long & Lean for sighthounds and Dachshunds, Broad & Burly for Vizslas, Dobermans and Corgis. Our patterns come from real dogs, not a scaled-up small. Take the sizing quiz.

Measure chest girth first

Chest girth behind the shoulder blades matters most, neck girth second, back length last. Use a soft tape or a piece of string. How to measure.

Questions we get all year

High-visibility dog gear, answered.

Which Blaze Orange coat is right for my dog?

For deep cold and short-haired or senior dogs, the Great White North. For winters that swing between wet and freezing, the Northern Blazer. For fall, spring and active dogs, the Alpine Blazer. For rain, mud and thick-coated breeds, the Harbour Slicker. Not sure? See the coat comparison chart or call us.

Is the vest enough on its own, or does my dog need a coat?

The High-Visibility Vest is a lightweight cover with no insulation, so it's for dogs who are warm enough already: thick-coated breeds, working dogs, and mild-weather off-leash time. When the temperature drops below what your dog is comfortable in, move to a coat. Every coat on this page is just as visible.

Do the coats work with a harness?

Yes. Put the harness on over the coat. We leave the harness hole out on purpose because it lets moisture in and heat escape. If you'd rather have a back-clip hole, the Northern Blazer with Harness Hole is made for exactly that.

Is the Great White North good in the rain?

No, and we'd rather tell you now than after a soggy walk! The fleece neck area isn't waterproof. For rain, choose the Harbour Slicker, the Alpine Blazer or the Northern Blazer, all of which have a fully waterproof shell.

Do you ship to the US?

Yes. Chilly Dogs gear is made in Canada and ships to Canada, the USA and 32 other countries. Shipping details and timelines.

Get your dog seen, whatever the month.
